Portugal’s Unicorns: after raising €189 million in funding, Sword Health became the 6th unicorn born in Portugal.
Sword Health was the fastest of the six startups to become a unicorn. With this funding, the startup now expects “to accelerate global expansion, intensify the development of new digital therapies and recruit 300 employees in Portugal and globally over the coming months”.
The Portuguese startup created the first digital solution for the treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies.
Before raising 189 million in a Series D round of funding, Sword Health had already raised 25 million in a Series B round back in January, as well as secured an 85 million in a Series C round last June. To this day, the startup has received over $320 million in various rounds of funding.
This Series D investment round was led by Sapphire Ventures, with new and existing investors taking part, such as General Catalyst, Transformation Capital, Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund, Bond, Green Innovations, among others.
The sixth Portuguese unicorn is born only a few months after the fifth, as Remote became the 5th unicorn back in July.
