The tourist accommodation sector in Portugal continued its path of recovery in July, albeit at a moderate pace.
After showing the first signs of recovery in June, tourism continued this path in July, mainly because of the Portuguese. The tourist accommodation sector received one million guests and 2.6 million overnight stays, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). These figures represent year-on-year drops of around 70%, below the 80% seen in June.
Resident guests were responsible for 1.74 million overnight stays (-30.8%), while non-residents were responsible for only 889 thousand (-84.5%). These numbers are still low when compared to last year, but already show an improvement compared to previous months.
The Algarve and the North were the regions where the highest number of overnight stays was concentrated.
