Web Summit- Europe’s Biggest Tech Conference — returns to Lisbon in November, and it marks the return of people to the event.
After going online in 2020 because of the pandemic, the annual conference brings together some of the sector’s leading figures, start-ups and policymakers to discuss the future of tech and more.
Web Summit has moved to Lisbon in 2016 and since then the event occurs annually in the Portuguese capital.
It has not yet been decided whether masks or tests will be required, communications manager Katherine Farrell told Reuters, but the venue is being prepared to ensure social distancing is possible.
Even though the event will be offline, certain elements of the Web Summit conference will be streamed online, due to the COVID-19 and the Portuguese restrictions.
It is expected to have around 40,000 people attending the Europe´s biggest tech conference, or at least this is what the organizers are hoping for.
Web Summit was on a hiring spree earlier this year in preparation for an in-person gathering, and has this week confirmed that Lisbon’s Altice Arena, where the event has been held in previous years, will be the location for the conference from 1 to 4 November 2021.
It is also very important to mention that Web Summit will be held in-person because of Portugal rhythm of vaccination, once over 60% of the population is fully vaccinated.
The event will have more than 1,000 speakers and 1,250 startups are expected to participate, according to Web Summit. Some of this year’s speakers include comedian Amy Poehler, EU commissioner Margrethe Vestager, footballer Gerard Piqué and Microsoft president Brad Smith. Leaders from big names in the industry such as Reddit, Amazon and Tinder are also in the line-up of more than 1,000 speakers.
