The objective of the event Huawei Summer School For Female Leadership In The Digital Age, that occurred from 23rd to 27th of August, was to highlight the role of women in ICT, as well as inspire young females to take the lead of the technological revolution.
Portugal hosted the first edition of the new Huawei Summer School For Female Leadership In The Digital Age, which is, as the initiative itself describes it “a commitment to furthering digital inclusion; specifically, closing the gender gap, and creating a world where women are empowered to not just participate, but to thrive and lead us into the digital future.”
The event had many activities and for over five days, it was possible to spend time with numerous world-class leaders from around the EU and beyond. They joined to share their ideas, debate the current state of global affairs and the shared challenges ahead, and brainstorm about how, together, we can shape a thriving digital future for Europe.
The programme is, naturally, aligned with the European Commission’s commitment vision of equality and inclusion to achieve a gender equal Europe by the year of 2025. The aim of the programme is also to encourage investment in women talent by showing to the world their capacity by fighting any kind of discrimination in the ICT professional area.
The Summer School For Female Leadership In The Digital Age was, of course, directed specifically for female students and young professionals with an interest in technology. Whether the students or professionals come from law, business, philosophy or arts – this programme aimed to broaden your horizons and present you with the opportunities that the digital era will bring for all sectors of the economy.
Huawei launched a competition that received more than 1,200 applications from students across the European Union with a jury composed of personalities of recognized European prestige and chaired by MEP Maria Manuel Leitão Marques. They have then selected 27 participants from all member states, who will receive a full scholarship that will cover all the costs associated with their participation, in order to ensure equal opportunities.
To fight for a more inclusive digital era is the main goal of this event, as well as promote the European spirit of solidarity and cooperation. The programme INCoDe.2030 also supports this event, as it is its purpose to place Portugal as one of the most advanced European countries in the digital area.
