The Algarve region continues to win international awards. The latest award was announced at the Irish Travel Industry Awards. Ireland’s travel industry professionals elected the Algarve as “Best Summer Destination 2020”.

This award “recognizes the quality in the provision of international travel services for customers traveling from that market and constitutes a guarantee seal granted by the Irish travel agents association”, highlights the Associação Turismo do Algarve.

The Algarve was elected favorite on a list of nominees that included other destinations. Spain and the Canary Islands, Greece, Italy and Orlando integrated the list.

The Algarve sees Ireland as one of the main outbound tourist markets for the region. In 2018 it was responsible for the stay of around 245 thousand guests and more than 1.3 million overnight stays.

Last year and until September, these indicators registered a 10% increase in the number of guests and 5.4% in the number of overnight stays, compared to the same period of the previous year.

This is the second prize that the Algarve wins in 2020, in a short period of days, after the region has also been awarded the title of “Best Golf Destination in Continental Europe”, awarded by readers of the renowned British magazine Today’s Golfer by fourth consecutive year.
