The quality of the goods made in Portugal is one of the main reasons for their global success.

The Clothing and the Footwear industry are two of Portugal’s key sectors. Along with Jewellery, these 3 Portuguese industries represent more than EUR 5 billion in exports.

With exportations on their minds, the event Showcase Portugal presented in New York 29 Portuguese brands to nearly 300 American distributors and local retailers.

Here are some numbers:

The Footwear industry

This industry exports more than 95% of its production to 152 different countries. In the last 8 years, its revenue increased more than 60% and about 10,000 jobs were created.

Exports to the US were worth EUR 72 million in 2017. Since 2010, there has been an increase of around 500%, making the US the seventh biggest target market for made in Portugal footwear. In the last 7 years, the revenue from the US and Canada markets went from EUR 13 to 99 million (+662%)

The exports from this sector add up EUR 1,96 billion in total.

The Clothing Industry

It represents 10% of total Portuguese Exports, worth a total of EUR 3,1 billion.

In 2017, exports to the US market were worth EUR 97 million.

The Jewellery Industry

The 2016 export value for this industry amounted to EUR 70 million and EUR 100 million in 2017. 25% of which was from the US market, settling it as the 4th biggest importer of Portuguese Jewellery, right after France, Spain and Hong Kong.

This sector’s exports are worth EUR 100 million in total.
