The German intuitive communications company NFON is to launch a new research and development centre in Portugal.
NFON AG, the only pan-European Cloud PBX provider, has decided to establish a nearshore location for another Research & Development centre in Europe, and has chosen Portugal.
The company, which operates in 15 countries, employs 350 and has 40,000 customers, delivers cloud-based telephone service solutions to companies. This new R&D centre will be based at a yet-to-be-disclosed location in Lisbon.
After a thorough evaluation process, Portugal was able to prevail in the decision. With a very high proportion of graduates in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology and a very good and broad integration of the English language, Portugal offers a very high affinity of young employees for international development projects.
“With the location of our nearshore in Portugal we will be able to expand and ensure greater competitiveness in the European market,” states the company.
The company has not revealed the amount of upfront investment in Portugal, but suggests it will be high “so that we can meet our objectives and recruit our NFON team in Portugal” and states that annual investment would be in the region of €2-€3 million per year.
