Foreign citizens who need a visa to enter Portugal can already apply for it on the Internet, through the new e-Visa platform.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has simplified the procedures for visa applications to enter Portugal. It is possible now to apply online for a visa in electronic format, on the new e-Visa platform.
The e-VISA came into operation this week. It is accessible in Portuguese, English, French, Ukrainian and Russian, and online payment of the fee should soon be available.
“With the introduction of the e-VISA, visa applications and the sending of documents necessary for the processing of the application can now be done electronically”, announced the Secretary of State of the Portuguese Communities, in a statement.
Among the new features is the possibility for applicants to check the status of applications at any time. Visa applicants receive a personal access code that allows them to follow up the process online.
The process is divided into four stages: “application registered”, “under examination”, “granted or refused” and “visa issue”.
The e-VISA platform is among new features of the ministry’s “New Model of Consular Management”. In this way, the Government centralises visa applications and submission of documents on one platform.
Eventually the platform will also include the possibility of paying the administrative fee for processing the application.
