The portuguese Troia Golf, an 18-hole 36 hectare golf course has been voted among the Top 10 most ecological golf courses in the world.
The heart of the Troia peninsula – in Comporta – is home to one of the most exciting and challenging golf courses in Portugal. Set right at the edge of the ocean, it boasts glorious views of the beach and the magnificent Serra da Arrábida.
According to ‘The Golfscape Blog’ what sets the golf course apart from most others is its biodiversity. It has more than 60 animal species living on the land covered by the course.
Designed by the North American golf architect Robert Trent Jones Senior, Troia Golf is listed in The Rolex World’s Top 1 000 Golf Courses guide. Indeed, in 2011, Rolex elected Troia Golf as one of the best golf courses in the world.
The Troia Golf course is particularly renowned for its third and 18th holes. The third hole features a perfectly landscaped design and a view of the ocean.
Recently, Troia Golf won eight place in the ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe 2019’ by the magazine Golf World. This latest designation only adds to Portugal’s award as the “Best Golf Destination in the World 2018” for the fifth year running at the World Golf Awards 2018.
Also, in 2018, the magazine Golf World rated Troia Golf the 17th top golf course of the whole of Continental Europe.
In other golf-related news, IAGTO (International Association for Golf Tourism Operators) elected Algarve as the best golf destination in the world for 2020 because of the recognised quality of its golf courses and the region’s hospitality.
