This year’s Web Summit will take place only in December 2nd and 4th and, for the first time. It will be online and also face-to-face. The event will take place, all over the country, on “stages” that will work simultaneously. The objective is to make the country better known.
“We don’t want to just set up a studio in Lisbon, but go to Porto, Coimbra, Faro, and do something at the same time. The world has to know that there’s more Portugal beyond Lisbon, and so we’re thinking about how to do it, (…) it will be incredible for the world to see and get to know more about the country”, said Web Summit co-founder and CEO Paddy Cosgrave.
This new mixed edition – online and offline – of the event will be the second online event organized by the team. The first was the Collision (June 23-25), which was to take place in Toronto, Canada. The conference organization built the software that allows the online broadcast of the event over the past eight weeks.
“The online Web Summit will be significantly focused on the Portuguese economic recovery, working together with local authorities to promote the goals and key messages to the right attendees,” the communiqué adds.
The team organizing the conference said that the Web Summit will bring together over 100,000 founders of startups, partners and speakers, following the growth of recent years.
“It will be the best in the world for Portugal. Twice as many participants, with zero health risk in Portugal” wrote Cosgrave on its Twitter account.
