The VPN company Surfshark conducted a global research on the quality of a digital wellbeing in 85 countries. This study indexes the countries by looking at five fundamental pillars that define the digital quality of life. The five pillars that Surfshark took a closer look at, were internet affordability, internet quality, electronic infrastructure, electronic security and electronic government.

Portugal ranks 29th globally and is highly advanced when it comes to E-security.This makes it to the 19th position on the list of countries that are well-equipped for cyber attacks.

Compared to other countries with similar GDP per capital, such as Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Portugal has a better digital quality of life. Bahrain ranks 61st, whereas Saudi Arabia occupied the 45th position in the DGL Index” writes the VPN company.

When compared with Spain, Portugal is lagging behind. Spain finds itself in 18th position and surpasses Portugal in all the pillars analysed. Exception is made for the electronic government where Portugal (24th) ranks three places ahead of Spain (27th).

When it comes to internet affordability, Portugal ranks just above Brazil and Uruguay, in position 68.
